UNISON Training – Responsible Investment & the LGPS

Can we solve climate change through our pension funds?

UNISON is running a pilot course with ShareAction for members and activists interested in how their pension system works, how and what it invests in; how it is responding to issues like climate change, labour rights, and equal pay in the companies it invests in.

This will take place on May 9th 10.30am-4pm at UNISON Centre, London. There are 20 places available. The course is free, travel and refreshments paid for.

You do not need any previous knowledge, this will be an easy to understand one day course. Find out how you can join a growing number of UNISON activists who want to ensure their pension investments do not harm the environment, attack workers in the companies you invest in and supports demands for economic justice around the world.

Taking this course will enable you to do the following:

  • Find out how the LGPS works, who makes the decisions and how your money is invested
  • How your funds are responding to climate change and how you can help reverse the most damaging effects
  • How you and fellow UNISON activists can join together to improve the way your pension fund responds to demands for change – your union is helping to co-ordinate these initiatives and we want you to join in

Please see below for course details and application form which you should complete and send to the Branch office for authorisation by either the Education Officer or one of the Joint Branch Secretaries.

Here is the article on a report UNISON will shortly be distributing.

Please contact Colin Meech if you have any queries about the course or contact the Branch if you have any queries about the application process.
