Annual General Meeting 2021: Wednesday 17th March 12pm & 5pm

The Bolton Branch Annual General Meeting (AGM) this year will take place online due to the current health protection measures.

The AGM is an important meeting for all members. It provides an opportunity for you to ask questions about the work of the union, you can see how branch finances have been used and you can help to set policy and agree priorities for the year ahead.

The AGM also provides an opportunity for you to elect officials to lead the branch and represent your interests.

All members attending will be entered into a raffle to win one of 10 afternoon teas, to be delivered to their home address. There will be additional prizes to be won, 10 copies of Paul Salveson’s book ‘Will Yo’Come O’Sunday Mornin? – The 1896 Battle for Winter Hill’.

Electing your Branch Officials and Workplace Reps

One of the most important functions of the AGM is to elect officials to lead the branch for the year ahead. A whole range of different jobs are available in the branch each one of which carries a really important set of responsibilities. Whether you’re face to face with managers in negotiations, representing members in a disciplinary, or helping members with a welfare claim, all are necessary to create an effective union team.

Election of Branch Officials

I wrote out to you last November, inviting nominations for Branch Officer Positions with a deadline. This was to allow the branch to fulfil its responsibly in line with the unions National Rules.

If we’d had more than one nomination for Any of the officer positions we would have had to undertake a ballot. On this occasion we didn’t have to do so.

We do however have some casual vacancies remaining and we will take nominations from the floor at the AGM:

Young Members Officer (must be under 27)
International Officer
Vice Chair
Environmental Officer

For more information about any of these roles, please contact the Branch.

Have you thought about being a steward, someone who can represent your section of the workforce to ensure your voices are heard?

A full list of our Branch stewards to be re-elected will be available in the AGM papers (which will be sent out by the end of February) but you can put yourself forward to be a steward at any time, you just need two other members in your workplace to nominate you. We will be sending out an email tomorrow with details of a Zoom meeting we will be holding on Thurs 11th February for anyone who is interested in getting more involved in the union but you can contact the Branch at any time if you would like more information.

Access Requirements

We recognise that to ensure all of our members can fully participate it may be necessary to make adjustments, if you require any adjustment please contact the branch and we will discuss your requirements.

We hope you will come along to the AGM – we’re certainly very keen to see you!

Best wishes
